Washington, DC – On Tuesday, May 4, 2010, Blair LLC, of Warren, Pennsylvania, announced its cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in the recall of Roman shades. The CPSC announced a voluntary recall of all Roman shades and roll up blinds in December 2009.

Blair and the CPSC advise consumers to stop using the recalled products unless otherwise instructed. The Roman Shades pose a strangulation risk to children. According to the CPSC press release, “Strangulations can occur when a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck.”

No accidents or injuries were reported, as of May 4, 2010.

The recall consists of approximately 5,600 units nationwide. The styles of Roman shades are as follows:

Consumers are advised to contact the Window Covering Safety Council for a free repair kit. Consumers can call (800) 506-4636 anytime to reach a representative.
